KLANG: Interact Co-ordinating Council of Klang (ICC) members painted murals at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital to create a more comforting environment for the young patients.ICC is made up of interact clubs from SMK Perempuan Raja Zarina, SMK La Salle Klang, SMK Convent Klang, SMK Methodist ACS Klang, SMK Perempuan Methodist Klang, SMK Taman Klang Utama, SMK Tinggi Klang, SMK Sultan Abdul Samad and SMK Batu Unjur.Armed with paints and brushes and, most of all, enthusiasm, 170 students and five teacher advisers spent the recent school holidays beautifying the walls with drawings of cartoon characters and sea creatures on the second, sixth and seventh floors of the hospital where the paediatric and neonatal wards are located. The Interactors also set up a reading corner on the seventh floor by furnishing a section of the ward with story and activity books, board games and toys.ICC spent close to RM16,000 on the project which included a donation of RM7,924 to the hospital for the purchase of equipment for the children's wards. The funds to support its projects are raised through charity programmes organised throughout the year.Interactors, teachers and members of The Rotary Club of Klang (RC Klang) also held a fun day at the wards, giving out goodie bags and bringing smiles to the faces of the young patients and their parents. Also present were hospital director Dr R. Supathiratheavy, district education officer Noraini Md Tahir, Rotary International District 3300 district governor Leslie Sallehuddin and RC Klang president Heng Gee Eng."The Interactors had sacrificed and put to good use their free time to participate in a community project. This makes them responsible members of society and we look forward to more projects from them," said Heng.ICC chairman Mahalatchmi Subramaniam said the project was one of the best they had ever organised because of the happy faces of the children at the end of the four days.Guided by RC Klang, ICC is a service club for those aged 14 to 18. Interactors participate in community projects while developing leadership skills.ICC is an international organisation sponsored by local Rotary Clubs.
